A substack devoted to exploring the historical context of the Stoic philosopher Epictetus.

The author, Erlend MacGillivray, received his PhD on Epictetus and Philo of Alexandria from the University of Aberdeen in 2018. His first book on Epictetus, Epictetus and Laypeople, was published by Rowman & Littlefield Books in 2020. He has had articles and book chapters published in The Journal of Greco-Roman Christianity and Judaism, Novum Testamentum, the Journal of Ancient History, Aperion: A Journal for Ancient Philosophy and Science, and Ancient World. He also maintains an interest in logic and has helped developed an inductive logic curriculum, which is currently being taught in high schools.
